Barlow Family

?, #5004
     *This saga is under construction.*

Thomas Barlow did not stay long in one place. He was born in Warwick Co., Virginia in 1761. His parents moved, soon after his birth, back to Isle of Wight County, Virginia.

Thomas enlisted in the army in 1777, at age 16, in the Third Virginia (Edmond's) Artillery Regiment, where he served for three years, being discharged August 23, 1780. Thomas' father, Jesse, died while he was still in the army. Upon Thomas' discharge, he lived in Brunswick Co., VA, probably on the plantation of his kinsman, Willis Wills. (Thomas' mother was Lucy Wills.)

While in Brunswick Co. he married Elizabeth Roscoe, circa 1784. Elizabeth was born in 1765. Their first son, Richard, was born December 29, 1784. Another son, John, was born in 1787, the year the family moved to Wake Co., NC. It is unclear whether John was born before or after that move. A daughter was born in 1789, James in 1791, and Elizabeth in 1795, all in Wake Co. NC. In 1796, the family moved again, this time to Edgefield District, SC. Olive was born there in 1798.

Thomas' wife, Elizabeth, died circa 1800. Sometime after 1800, Thomas married Mary <...>, and they had a son, Thomas, in 1803. Another move took place between 1808 and 1810, when the family went to Laurens Co., GA. In 1810, the children were Richard, 26, John, 23, James, 19, Elizabeth, 15, Olive, 12, and Thomas, 7. Thomas (father) died three years later, in Laurens Co., GA, in 1813.1,2,3

The following people are mentioned in this Barlow Family story: Thomas Barlow, Jesse Barlow, Lucy Wills and Elizabeth Roscoe. (To be continued.)
